Survey Comments

Minton Lumber Supply, which is opposite the train station in downtown Mountain View, serves do-it-yourselfers and small contractors, as well as industrial accounts. It was started in 1911 by Midwesterner Earl Minton and by the 1950s his son, Owens Minton, was operating the business. Current owner, Herb Eaton, joined the company as Assistant General Manager in 1965 and purchased the business six years later. Mr. Eaton continues to work at the store every day, but his daughter, Debra Eaton Schulz, is now President of the company. Many of the employees have been with Minton's for over 20 years.

Minton's carries an extensive inventory of top quality redwood, fir, pine and cedar, as well as exotic and domestic hardwoods. They offer several brands of hardware, building materials, paint, plumbing and electrical supplies. Their onsite cutting shop provides custom cuts of lumber and plywood tailored to the customer's needs. Minton's door shop can prefit or prehang doors, usually within 24 hours. Their knowledgeable staff is on hand to special-order items, give advice on a specific project and provide quick check-out service.
